A Rush to Immaturity.

Since opening up my hometown paper, I had to chuckle when the President of the United States was called “immature” by who else than Rush Limbaugh . I had to turn to the NEW WEBSTER DICTIONARY, which states, “not bought in complete state”. Rush’s thinking is not in a complete state either. I mean does this sounds like a pot calling the kettle black?
I do not blame the Obama Administration in striking back at Hate Talk Radio. However the White House is doing things the wrong way in “punishing” Fox News. If I were in that position, surprise and damaging counter attacks would be made. Something of that Presidents Jackson , Truman, and LBJ would had done. For example, making unannounced appearances on FOX NEWS and WOAI confronting certain personalities. I would ask some questions directly -in person- on air.
For example Sean Hannity. I would ask Sean, if he is so bothered by the likes of the so-called “Rev” Jeremiah Wright, then what about his relationship with Hal Turner, the Neo Nazi leader in New Jersey ? If someone would ask this question on Hannity’s TV and Radio show, he would not have his show within six months. The same can go for Glenn Beck for his anti-Muslim rhetoric; his “healthcare is preparations for slavery” comment; “Obama is a racist“ comment, and his inaction and approval of the so-called Rev Jesse Lee Peterson’s comments that all Black people are “socialist”.
This comes back to Rush Limbaugh. He claims that he isn’t a racist bigot. He is like a Crocodile that urged a rabbit that he won’t eat him while crossing the river.
He referred President Obama as a “man-child”. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure that out what “man-child” means. That word is nothing more than a racial codeword for “boy” . Rush not a racist? What a croc of shit.
That my friends is IMMATURE.

Patterns of History

There are people on here that said this forum is filled with anger and hate. That civility is gone.
I for one, do not and will not apologize for my past comments. I will also discard the apology I made for the time being. Yes, I am an angry person, yes I am not a happy camper. I, right or wrong, have a strong dislike and distrust of the conservative movement. The comments made in response to Mr. Leonard Pitts’ Op-Ed piece are the reasons why I have these feelings.
You see I am a student of history and I see patterns. Dangerous patterns, I see and hear on talk radio programs, television, and on the very pages of this paper.

What dangerous patterns?

In 1860, Abraham Lincoln won the Presidency. Southern States protested and succeed from the Union. Hours after the results of the 2008 Presidential election, I read a blog on this very same forum expressing the need for Texas to succeed from the Union. After trying to obtain information on why; I receive no answer. Let’s also not forget Governor Rick Perry, who suggested the same at a Tea Bag party event in Austin.

During the late 1950’s and early 60’s, there was the Mink Coat Mob led by Congressman Bruce Alger. Some could say that the Mink Coat Mob is the forerunner to the Soccer mom movement and today’s Tea Baggers. The Mink Coat women not only protest, but slander, insulted, and even assaulted public officials.
L.B.J and his family was spat at and attack during his duel Vice Presidential/Senatorial 1960 campaign. They also attack U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Stevenson in Dallas, Texas. They also made the “JFK for Treason” posters days before the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.

Last April or so, the potential Republican Party Candidate for Victoria County Judge held a poster about Tyranny. Plus this person use Thomas Jefferson quotes. I guess the person in question also know the quote, “The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants“.
I guess the person in question also believe assassinating public officials and their supporters ( collective stupidity as he calls it) because he disagree.

History vs Propaganda

According to the Webster Dictionary, the word “propaganda” has a clear definition.
“ The dissemination and defense of beliefs, opinion, or action deem salutary to the program of a particular group; the propagation of doctrine and tenets of special interest, as an effort to give credence to information partly or wholly fallacious”.
The reason I’m quoting this not because little ole man can’t spell nor read. NO !!!!!. It is because someone need to look things up instead of tying to whitewash past events. One can NOT cherry pick history nor have selective memory while being honest. History should be taught in an honest and open way; not who’s version or the “Might Makes RIGHT” version.
Texas gain its independence for several reasons. One reason is that President Santa Anna was a cruel tyrant to everyone. Second reason because those settlers have different outlook than many Mexicans. Which is caused by third reason, that Texas was isolated from Mexico proper in terms in security, economic, and taxation. The fourth and most overlooked reason is slavery itself. This is why I stated the word “partially“.
This is the main point of this blog. Most “Texicans” were from Southern Conservative Slave states. I can traced my roots from the Carolinas. That wasn’t an easy job for a descendent of slaves to trace his family history.
Mexico, a newly freed republic, had kept some if not most, of Spanish laws. One law pretends for the usage of slave labor. According to the decree made by Mexican President Vicente Guerrero in 1829, Mexico outlawed slavery. This had cause tensions between the White Southern Settlers and Mexico. This means that a person born a slave would gain freedom at the age of 16. This also means that a child of a slave is not a slave.
History, REAL HISTORY, should be taught. Everything that happen should be taught. The problem is teachers who are more interested in ideology than education. In my days in Jr. High and High School, most of my teachers were like Peter Aparicio. Sometimes I get in trouble for challenging and questioning my teachers.

Views that contain this Might makes Right mentality. THAT IS propaganda. Instead of the whining and crying about the President's speech, they should be worrying about how our STATE REP Geanie Morrison hijack Higher Education.

Local Water Issue

Water, water everywhere and none to drink. Imagine yourself on a boat, in themiddle of the ocean without drinking water. This would be a stressful and tryingtime for you fighting the urge to drink. Either choice leads to death. If one could open his or her eyes, one should see that Texas is in the samesituation. It does not matter if its urban metro areas like Houston, Austin, andSan Antonio or rural area like ours. We are all affected. It is evident with thelong term drought, the burn bans and the growth of population.I maybe a day late and dollar short on the this subject, but it seems to methat there are no long term solutions being made. It seems no one-NO ONE- areputting two and two together. We can not afford in not preventing waterstorages. The common plan is to create or plan water districts or zones. Asimple water district does NOT solve the problem.

According to a local area newspaper last spring, one pillar of the communitywho testify in front of a county commissioner court said that desalination is"too costly" for Texans. I have to ponder if desalination is so costly, thenlets add up all of the local burn bans, local unemployment, budgets of waterdistricts, and the sky rocketing price of hay, feed, cattle, and farmequipments. Correct me if I am wrong, but does that cost at least onedesalination plant? I mean the budget of the Texas Water Commission is over 128million dollars. Again why not Desalination Plants? Our so-called friends in theMiddle East have them. Why can't the Great U.S. of A? Why can't the formerrepublic of Texas?

We must remind ourselves of what happen in 2006 and 2007 with our sister stateof Georgia. Due to the major drought in those two years. The man-made lake, thename escapes me for the moment, that feeds the Atlanta metro area could no longsustain itself. This was due to fact that the population of Atlanta was growingand the lack of rainfall. It was so bad that Governor George Ervin "Sonny"Perdue III (R-GA) had to asked the nearby states, like Tennessee and Kentucky,to deliver tons of water to relieve Atlanta.

Today, here in the crossroads area, there are rumors - real or imagine- that acity like San Antonio would take water from this area even during a drought. The sad thing that our State House Rep and our State Senator are muted on thissubject. Our State House Rep. Geanie Morrison (R- Victoria) and State SenatorGlenn Hegar (R-Katy) voted to force one county, Lavaca, to vote on a waterdistrict, not once, but three times. By the way, the fourth election is in 2010.This is like creepy guy advancing his feelings to a girl who doesn't want it.This is kind of like stalking to me. This is not leadership from the twoofficials we elected to Austin. Real leadership is about making HARD CHOICES.Hard choices must be made , not political pandering and grandstanding to beelected to the "millionth" term. No one is talking about that.
The questions remain. Where is the leadership? Where is the foresight? Where isthe wisdom? Where is the commitment? We do not need Apathy, backwardness, andshyness.

Unlike the our two elected officials to Austin, I have a solution tothe water problem. My solution is lay aside money from the corrupt TexasDepartment of Transportation and require and help San Antonio, Austin, Houston, and Corpus Christi to built a system of two or three Desalination Plants to feedtheir populations. Think of the possibilities of saving and creating jobs inVictoria, Dewitt, Lavaca, Jackson, and other counties in the crossroads. It is time for us to be like Joseph and King Solomon. Some of you do not want to hearabout the Bible. Too bad, there is no time for political correctness. Joseph.dreams saved Egypt from incoming disasters that the monarch appointed himsomething that of a Primer. How about King Solomon who uses wisdom to solveproblems in ancient Israel? Let us not be like Oedipus Rex, yes folks I knowGreek literature. Me's can read too. He, unlike Joseph and Solomon, was loud, arrogant, and obnoxious with envious pride that made him blind from seeing theway. He did not have the foresight, the wisdom, the leadership and thecompassion to solve the problem.

That is like some of us , well some people, whoaccuses, making up wacky conspiracies, and use code words like socialism, political correctness, Ebonics, "Nobama" or some other stupid language becausethey can't take a lost.Water is VERY, very important for us. Ranches need water. Farms need water.Small communities need water. We ALL need water. The so called Water wars hasnot, not been lost. The time is now not tomorrow, now. It is time to dream andhave foresight like Joseph and apply wisdom of Solomon to solve the issues ofthe day. Or we will be like Oedipus, the foolish King, blinded and ashamed byhis own pride. Atlanta, Georgia should be a warning for us. You just beenwarned.

For Power Must Fall in 2010.

I am not surprised of the reaction -or should I say- non reaction of theVictoria Advocate article concerning State Rep Geanie Morrison's comments that"Texas fares better than the nation". Things could be, should be, better. The30th House District area (Victoria, Dewitt, Lavaca, Jackson, and Refugiocounties) should producing jobs; making it safer for families and for studentsto learn. There are tons of things that must be done. Opportunities are beingmissed in the 30th district.

One issue is the water district.

Since 2003, State rep Morrison (along with State Senator had tried to force one county (Lavaca County) to create permanent water district not once, not twice, but three times. Wouldn't it be better to create a system of desalination plantsthat feed urban areas? Would it be better for those local manufacturingestablishments to create the pipes and materials for such a project? That isbetter than being at the mercy of this great drought we are in. That is betterthan being at the mercy of layoffs and of urban water districts such as SAWS.

The next issue is Education.

The issue of education is important in the 30thdistrict. It is embarrassing, embarrassing for having a former chair of theHouse Education committee to live in the same town that has a high drop outrate. V.I.S.D is nothing more than a brick of the Prison Industrial Complex.Hello Victoria, this is your wake up call !!!!!!!!!!! It is ashamed that ourState Rep did not address this important issue during the economic conference orto the Victoria Advocate.

Lets also not ignore HB3015 she wrote and help passed in 2003. By increasingtuition rates, how many students, then and now, didn't graduate? How manynurses, doctors, lawyers, teachers, accountants, businessmen, and policeofficers would there be with tuition deregulation? Without them wouldn't have abetter economy, a low drop out rate, and less crime? Where is the leadershipfrom Mrs. Geanie Morrison? Government should enhance and advance the "pursuit of happiness" of persons .Government should NOT hinder one's pursuit.

The people of the 30th district is not being served. Dewitt is not being served.Lavaca is not being served. Jackson is not being served. Even Victoria is notbeing served. The question is who is being served? It is the elite, the well off, the VictoriaA&M club, and yes allow me to be BOLD, the soccer mom element within theVictoria County Republican Party.

For Power must fail.

And pride must fall.

Victoria, District 30, this is your "wake up call". It is time to shed the D'sand the R's and recruit someone to replace this State Rep in November 2010.

2010 is the year we MUST make contract.

Like Joseph

Four Centuries have passed since chains and whips ruled. They were held by their African royalty and sold to their Germanic, Anglo, and French "Masters". They are the ones who overcame adversity in this American Union, for which they bled, cried, planted and labored . They overcame the tobacco fields of the Carolinas, overcame the sugar canes in Florida and overcame cotton plantations in Texas. Their overcoming is the reason why Black History isn’t just American History, but World History. While many were in bondage in slavery and in discrimination; there were those started the American Revolution, saved an Empire from defeat, created a transportation method, created a possible fuel source, and drove cattle across a beautiful, yet dangerous landscape to feed America. The sad fact in the education system, Black History, much like history in general, are not being respected and taught. Black History is much more than slavery, sports, or even the civil movement. Our history shouldn’t be a footnote at a bottom of a page or overlooked.
It was a sailor from colonial era Boston, who’s death gave rise for American Independence. Crispus Attucks was never honored or remembered by the founders of this republic, who would later proclaim someone like Attuck to be considered three fifths of a person. This is the sad reality of America’s birth defect . Across the world and time, there was a nurse from the Caribbean, who along with Florence Nightingale, introduced the modern battlefield nursing that saved a generation of British and French youth against the Russians. Yet Mary Seacole was left ignored and penniless within British Culture by those like Florence Nightingale, who accursed her of running a brothel and intoxicating Allied soldiers during the Crimean War. After the American Civil War there became the great cattle drives. Cattle being driven by cowboys. The classic Hollywood image of the Cowboy is far from the truth. Many of these cowboys were former slaves who drive cattle from Texas to Kansas and up to Chicago to feed a nation. What about Dr. Charles Richard Drew who created the technique of blood plasma for blood transfusions? According to legend, his death was contributed by refusal of the very same technique he created. In terms of safety and transportation, lets not forget about Mr. Garrett A. Morgan when he patented his version of the Gas Mask dubbed the “Safety Hood” and the automated traffic signal. Lastly, George Washington Carver who revolutionized agriculture in America, which helped rebuild America’s food supply after Dust storms destroyed crops in the Mid-West. He also discovered the used of peanuts as a fuel source. Maybe right now we could use this method to free ourselves from foreign oil.
There are cynical and hateful voices who use the election of Barack Obama to downplay the significance of the African-American history and culture. I would like to remind them that ignorance is not bliss, but a deadly venom that erodes the mind and creates cowardliness and paranoia. My advice to others do not let ANYONE to tell you how to think and feel. Do not let ANYTHING to get in the way of your dreams. Do not let numbers, charts, and statistics to govern your moral compass and drive. Our story, our history is similar to the Biblical story of Joseph. He was sold by brothers to be a slave to the Egypt, but yet he follow his dreams and become the Viceroy of Egypt. As we go towards the Mountain Top, we must remember and honor those who carry us from the deep valley and on the harsh long road. We shall remember them not just for one week or one month, but for all our days.
